Losing weight is the ultimate goal for many of us. We have a lot of reasons to gain weight. Similarly, we have a lot of reasons to lose those excess kilos!

Around 60% of the overweight population goes for weight loss supplements which never provide the promised results, also lead towards creating health hazards. 25% people plan to go for fad diet, even though if considerable people succeed in shedding pounds, they could not able to retain the weight loss. Subsequently, diet plans and weight loss supplements are not meant for long term or healthy and natural weight loss.  Rest of the population goes for hardcore and extreme workouts, which is not a viable option for everyone.

Changes in diet? Yes. Workout routines? Yes. Hitting the gym? Yes. You reduced your portions? Yes. You drink a lot of fluids? Yes. You are trying and trying, still not losing the weight! This is the most disturbing scenario that hurts many of us who are battling to lose weight.

Struggling to lose those extra kilos and bulges? You are not alone. I was the one who battled me to lose weight for several months. I discovered a few reasons why our strenuous weight loss efforts did not reap the fruits.

You workout too much

Hitting the gym regularly or following a fitness routine helps to lose weight effectively. This is half right and half wrong. There is a famous saying, too much is good for nothing. If you workout moderately, based on your weight loss goals, you simply achieve the results. Unfortunately, too much workout builds muscle mass, which leads to weight gain. You are not going to be a bodybuilder or a weightlifter isn’t it? So, don’t exercise too much to gain more kilos.

You get a little sleep only

Sleep is the best remedy for many health blues! When you sleep, the body repairs itself. You wake up an hour early, get that brisk walking or jogging to keep your weight under control! It is good. But remember, if you cannot sacrifice your sleep, it will not benefit you. Lack of adequate sleep increases the appetite, make you eat and drink a lot!

Just imagine, you would carry a drowsy or dull sensation when you don’t had sufficient sleep. So, to get rid of the dullness, you obviously move on to eat or drink something to freshen-up. It does nothing except, add up your calorie and weight.

Your diet – You eat too little

Dieting to lose weight isn’t about cutting the quantity of foods. Rather, reducing the portions of what you eat. Eating lesser quantity doesn’t aid in weight loss. Too little foods increase your carvings and you may tend to satiate your cravings in the intervals by munching on unhealthy bites.

You drink a lot of calories

You may assume that switching to liquid foods over solid foods for most of the day helps losing weight. Although the concept is correct, unknowingly you drink a lot of calories daily. Even liquid foods count on calories. For instance, you grabbed a milk shake over your breakfast, followed by a cup of coffee or iced tea or even coke! You have to be mindful about choosing the drinks to reduce your calorie intake.

You lack some essential nutrients

Not losing weight is directly associated with lack of nutrition. For instance, you will have cravings for sweet, a sort of diabetic condition when you don’t have sufficient COQ10, which is rich in fruits. You cannot lose weight if you are anemic, a deficiency of iron and Vitamin B12. You cannot lose weight if your bones are weak, a deficiency of calcium. Also, your body develops a tendency to retain the water and salt if you lack potassium.

You can easily figure out the nutrients you are deficient. Just follow a simple food journal and watch for the signs.

  • If you feel like you have swelling or bloated stomach, your salt intake is high and you have low potassium.
  • If you are deficient of iron, you always feel tired, lethargic and low energy.
  • If you crave for sugar, you eat a lot of carb foods.

However, in men, some of these signs aren’t very visible. If you cannot lose weight, you can really get some health tests to evaluate the nutritional deficiency.

You have some medical conditions

Be assured of two medical conditions, degenerative disorder accounts for not losing weight. Either you are in a pre-diabetic stage, where you have a tendency to eat a lot, gain a lot of weight. Or you have an underactive thyroid hormone. In spite of all efforts, if you still can’t lose weight, possibly it could be because of your thyroid.

If you suffer from thyroid deficiency, it is almost very obvious and you can diagnose it merely by seeing you in a mirror.

Facial swelling, prolonged tiredness, very low energy, erratic mood swings, sudden weight gain, uncontrollable hair loss, intolerance to cold, etc. are the signs of poor thyroid functions.

Still not able to figure out what is the prohibiting? Here are the other possible reasons.

  • You are on certain medicines, which prohibits your body’s ability to lose weight
  • You are always stressed or depressed. Stress is a barrier to weight loss. Stress produces a hormone called cortisol which inhibits release of nutrients, spending calories and burning fat.
  • You don’t drink enough water.
  • You check your weight very often. Weight loss is not a miracle to happen in a day. Don’t check it every hour.
  • You have food intolerance like gluten intolerance, bloating, etc.
  • You eat healthy and nutritious, but don’t have a check on your portions
  • Your lifestyle – Say you sit all day at the office or you don’t do any activities at all
