Oily Skin? – Not Anymore

Oily Skin

Do you love glossy and glowing skin? Yes, we do love to flaunt our skin carrying the extra glossiness, but not due to oiliness. Who loves to show-off the face that appears like it is soaked or coated with oil?

Common skin problems experienced by oily skinned women:

  • Greasiness
  • Acne
  • Lack of fresh look
  • Inability to wear makeup for long

The best thing about the oily skin is the texture of the skin. While the skin is actually greasy, the texture remains supple and you don’t get wrinkles or fine lines at an early age.

Oily skin has the tendency to enlarge the pores, make the facial skin too thick and prone to acne. Oily skin is also caused due to change of climate. It is caused due to excessive secretion oil from the sebaceous glands, eating oily and fatty foods, hormonal imbalances or changes, exposure to too much heat or too much humidity and of course, wrong choice of makeup.

Skin Care and Beauty routine for oily skin

Oily skin need not be a nightmare as long as you maintain good skin care routine. The beauty and skin care routine for oily skin is different from the normal skin care regimen.

Frequent face wash:

Wash the face regularly. It keeps your face fresh and oil free. You need not use a face wash or soap to wash your face. Just splash the water on the face.

Exfoliation:

Exfoliate your skin twice a week to remove the dead cells and open the pores. Regular exfoliation keeps the skin breakouts at bay.

Cleanser:

Cleansing the skin, removes the excessive oil. Be wary when you buy cleanser. Cleansers may remove the moisture from the skin as it penetrates deeply into the skin. You have special cleansers for oily skin. Buy the cleansers containing the tag for oily skin. These cleansers remove the excessive oil without stripping the necessary moisture. Use cleanser twice a day, morning and night. It deep cleanses the skin and makes you look free from blemishes too.

Moisturizer:

Oily skin doesn’t need moisture – a popular belief. However, this is wrong. Excessive greasiness doesn’t mean the skin is moistened. Apply the moisturizer every night before bed.

Say yes to sunscreen:

The fear of extra greasiness makes the oily skinned women skip wearing sunscreen. It leads to dark spots, freckles and pigmentation. Just go for gel based sunscreen. It protects your skin from sun, as well gives your skin a matte look.

DIY Face mask for oily skin – Fuller’s Earth

If your skin is too oily and too sensitive to try any cosmetic, just go for this simple DIY homemade face mask. The miracle ingredient to transform oily skin is none other than Fuller’s Earth. Also termed as Multani Mitti, it is nothing but clay!

Fuller’s earth has rich minerals and very effective for oily skin. It removes off the excessive oil, tightens the saggy skin, shrinks the large pores and cleanses the skin. The clay mask makes the skin soft. You will find an added glow to the skin. Your skin doesn’t look oily any more, but retains the natural moisture.

Take three to five tablespoons of fuller’s earth and add water to make it a fine paste. Make sure to get a creamy texture. This is the basic face mask for oily skin.

You can add rose water to make the face mask instead of water. Adding a few drops (say around 4 to 5 drops) lavender oil or tea tree oil treats and soothes the skin.

Apply it on your face and neck. Don’t apply near the eyes. You may need around 15 to 20 minutes to dry it. When the outer layer of the face mask completely dries, you will feel the mask tightening your skin. Before it dries completely (you will feel that your skin is pulled tightly), remove it.

You can buy Fuller’s Earth at any beauty store and in any mall. Get this face mask twice or thrice a week. Within a few weeks, your skin doesn’t look oily anymore.

Makeup for Oily Skin

Makeup is something you can avoid if your skin is too oily! Still, if you cannot avoid it, go for powder based makeup products.

Primer is the best bet for oily skin. Finding the right foundation for oily skin is quite tricky. Instead, you can always rely on primer. Primer makes the skin tone even and hides the blemishes.

Many times, even the gel or powder based dry makeup may not go well on the oily skin. Your skin may look still greasy. If your skin is excessively oily, just stick to mineral makeup. The ingredients used in every makeup product of mineral makeup helps treating oily skin. It controls the greasiness, removes the pigmentation, reduces pores and protect from UV rays.

You always need to check for the organic makeup products. Many cosmetics contain the ingredients that might harm your skin. For instance, paraben. Check for the products that are marked, labeled non-comedogenic and oil free!

For eye makeup, gel eyeliner and powder eye shadow is quite sufficient.

Don’t go for too many layers of makeup. Moisturizer, sunscreen, primer or foundation, pressed powder, contouring, highlight, blush, etc etc is not for oily skin! Don’t coat more than two layers of any cosmetic, say foundation. A single coat is sufficient.

Buy a quality makeup remover. Don’t go to bed without removing makeup at any cost. In many cases, cleanser works best as a makeup remover in oily skin.
